Headache Program

About our headache program
The UCI Health Headache Program offers you comprehensive headache and facial pain care. Led by Dr. Crystal Jicha, we begin with an evaluation for headache and facial pain conditions by using a detailed neurologic exam, CT or MR imaging and subspecialist referrals as needed. You will receive specialized care, unique to your headache or facial pain condition. To ensure ensuring comprehensive and holistic care we work closely in collaboration with providers in:
We approach care as a partnership between patient and clinician, considering the interests and preferences of our patients when choosing therapeutic options for treatment. This includes not only pharmacologic care, but also behavioral, alternative, and complementary treatment approaches.
Treatments
We offer a number of procedural treatments including:
- Botox
- Nerve blocks
- Sphenopalatine ganglion blocks
- Trigger point injections
- CGRP therapies
- Neuromodulation
Common headache conditions we treat
- Migraine (with and without aura)
- Vestibular migraine
- Tension type headache
- Cluster headache
- Hemicrania continua/paroxysmal hemicrania
- New daily persistent headache (NDPH)

Preparing for your appointment
For your first visit, to help us properly care for you, please provide:
- Any recent headache logs
- This is a record of your symptoms which should include the frequency and duration of attacks, what you take for treatments and how your pain responds, any associated symptoms or triggering factors. A headache log/diary can be a helpful tool for you and your provider to better understand your condition.
- Medical records from other providers relevant to your headache/facial pain care
- Any tests or reports you have completed
- Imaging discs from outside facilities
- List of current medications as well as past medications you may have used for this condition
These materials will help to make the most out of your first appointment and allow us to provide the tailored and comprehensive care you deserve.
