Dr. Edward Uchio is a fellowship-trained urological oncologist and leader in the management of genital and urinary malignancies. His clinical expertise includes all areas of urologic oncology, including advanced surgical treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers. He is skilled in the use of laparoscopic, robot-assisted and minimally invasive techniques — including cryoablation, radiofrequency and high-intensity focused ultrasound — as well as newer technologies and therapies that are only available in clinical trials.
Uchio also uses a new, more exacting imaging technology that combines magnetic resonance imaging with real-time, three-dimensional ultrasound to perform more accurate prostate biopsies. Currently director of clinical trials for the UC Irvine Health School of Medicine's Department of Urology, Uchio has been the principal investigator on more than 25 clinical studies over the last two years, specializing in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
Uchio completed his fellowship in urologic oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Md., where his laboratory focus was on hereditary renal cancer syndromes such as von Hippel Lindau Disease (VHL). He has given presentations internationally on the molecular basis of renal malignancies and is the author of numerous publications and book chapters on urologic cancers.
Dr. Uchio welcomes the opportunity to consult with you.
