Dr. Yona Nicolau is a board-certified UC Irvine Health neonatologist and pediatrician. She practices neonatology at the neonatal intensive care unit of UC Irvine Medical Center.

Nicolau earned her medical degree from Carol Davila University in Romania. She completed a residency training at the UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program and a fellowship in neonatal perinatal medicine at UC Irvine Health. She is chair of the clinical competency committee for the neonatal perinatal fellowship.

Nicolau is also the principal investigator in multicenter clinical trials in collaboration with Loma Linda University, and she is working to develop a clinical and quality improvement program at UC Irvine. Her emphasis is on developing clinical trials that help improve neonatal care for extremely low birthweight infants.
