Palliative Care

When you are coping with a serious illness, maintaining your quality of life while minimizing emotional and physical discomfort during your treatment is a high priority.

Palliative care is just that: comprehensive pain management and emotional support for you and your family.

Palliative care is offered regardless of your stage of illness, not just during end-of-life care. Our palliative care team of physicians and nurses serves the entire medical center, working with your physician to coordinate your treatment.

For more information about palliative care, call us at 714-456-8000.

Is palliative care right for you?

Whether your illness is terminal, chronic or curable, palliative care can be an option for you. The goal is to relieve suffering, pain and stress while providing the best possible quality of life.

You or your loved one may be a candidate for palliative care if:

  • You are coping with a serious illness, such as cancer, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, dementia and emphysema
  • You are having symptoms such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, nausea or a lack of appetite
  • You have visited the emergency room frequently or have been admitted to the hospital three or more times in a 12-month period
  • The treatment for your illness is no longer working
  • You need help with decision-making, planning for the future and emotional or spiritual support

How to receive care

Palliative care is generally requested by a referral from your personal physician.

While receiving palliative care, you maintain your relationship with your treatment team while our palliative care team coordinates with your physician to give you comprehensive care.
