Patient Education

UC Irvine Health offers a many different health education classes and support groups to help you live well, whether you are a patient, family member, support person or a member of the community.

Our classes and support groups cover a number of subjects, including smoking cessation, cancer support, parenting preparation, lowering cholesterol, meditation, asthma and more. We also offer several classes in Spanish (see the Spanish tab for more information).

We provide a variety of educational videos for our patients. Topics include allergies, cancer, general health and wellness, men and women's health, and parenting.

Becoming a new parent can be an overwhelming and exciting time. That's why UC Irvine Health offers a variety of resources to help you get through parenthood successfully, we offer classes for expectant parents, new parents and parents of young children.

Our classes include:

Prepared Childbirth
This five-class series provides parents-to-be with the skills they need for a successful and positive birth experience. Bring two pillows, a towel or mat and a partner to each class. This class is free to all participants. 

Newborn Care
Pregnant women and their birth partners in their last trimester of pregnancy can benefit from this class. Infant feeding, dressing, bathing, diapering, normal newborn appearance and signs and symptoms of illness are discussed. Registration is required. This class is free to UC Irvine Health patients, staff, volunteers and their families; $20 for community members. 

Breastfeeding
This class is for pregnant women and their birth partners in the third trimester of pregnancy. Discussion topics include the process of milk production, how to breastfeed, avoiding potential problems and returning to work or school. This class is free to UC Irvine Health patients, staff, volunteers and their families; $20 for community members.

The Newborn Channel
