IN THE NEWS: Signs of a stroke may not always be recognized. That lack of knowledge can lead to delay of treatment, which increases the chances of neurological damage, UCI Health neurologist Dr. Steven Cramer tells the Orange County Register. Based on his recent lecture at the Newport Beach Public Library, Cramer shared expert insights into minimizing stroke risk, recognizing the signs of a stroke, and the importance of seeking immediate treatment.

Cramer also discussed how UC Irvine Medical Center’s designation as the first Comprehensive Stroke Center and his role in establishing a countywide system of stroke-receiving centers offers patients a higher level of care. He also addressed a new field of research called brain repair, describing some of the brain repair research projects and clinical trials he is conducting, which are designed to help heal the brain, enabling stroke patients to make a full recovery.
