UC Irvine neurologist seeks participants for epilepsy trial

January 03, 2013
Dr. Mona Sazgar, UC Irvine Comprehensive Epilepsy Program

Dr. Mona Sazgar, an associate professor with the UCI Health School of Medicine's Department of Neurology, is conducting a clinical trial evaluating the tolerability and efficacy of Lacosamide when added to Levetiracetam with withdrawal of other antiepileptic drugs in patients with uncontrolled partial-onset seizures.

Qualified subjects are 18 years of age or older with a diagnosis of epilepsy with partial-onset and are taking Levetiracetam in combination with antiepileptic drugs.

The benefits of participating in this research study include frequent medical evaluations and close monitoring of your health status by a study doctor.  You may not have a direct health benefit from participating in this study.  Your seizures may improve while participating in this study; however, this cannot be guaranteed.

Future subjects may benefit from the knowledge gained from this study.

The study may last up to 29 weeks consisting of approximately eight clinic visits and six telephone visits. The clinic visits will last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. Total compensation for completing the trial is up to $280.

To find out if you qualify for this study, please contact Dr. Sazgar’s research team at 949-824-8116, 949-824-3485 or E.Ceballos@uci.edu.
