December 01, 2012
John G. Lee, MD, Interventional Gastroenterologist

John G. Lee, MD, is director of Pancreaticobiliary Services at the H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center. He is an expert in diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the pancreas and biliary tract using minimally invasive techniques. These include ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, which employs a thin flexible tube called an endoscope to obtain images and perform surgery) and interventional endoscopic ultrasound (a procedure that uses an endoscope equipped with ultrasonic imaging and surgical tools). Dr. Lee is also accomplished in the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, and the treatment of difficult and large colonic polyps.   He is certified by both the American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Minimally invasive surgeries such as gastrointestinal endoscopy offer advantages including smaller incisions, reduced pain and shorter healing times; and Dr. Lee is studying the outcomes of patients who have undergone such procedures. His research is published in such prestigious journals as the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Medicine and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Honored with awards for his work as a medical instructor, Dr. Lee is also listed in Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors in Orange County.
