John G. Lee, MD, is director of Pancreaticobiliary Services at
the H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center. He is an expert in
diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the pancreas and biliary tract
using minimally invasive techniques. These include ERCP (endoscopic
retrograde cholangiopancreatography, which employs a thin flexible tube
called an endoscope to obtain images and perform surgery) and
interventional endoscopic ultrasound (a procedure that uses an
endoscope equipped with ultrasonic imaging and surgical tools). Dr. Lee is also
accomplished in the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, and the treatment
of difficult and large colonic polyps. He is certified by both the
American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Minimally invasive surgeries such as gastrointestinal endoscopy offer
advantages including smaller incisions, reduced pain and shorter healing times;
and Dr. Lee is studying the outcomes of patients who have undergone such
procedures. His research is published in such prestigious journals as the
New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Medicine and
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Honored with awards for his work as a medical
instructor, Dr. Lee is also listed in Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors
in Orange County.
