MyChart patient portal FAQ

Answers to commonly asked questions about MyChart

What is MyChart and what can I do with a MyChart account?

MyChart is an online patient portal that gives patients secure access to their health records. It enables patients to securely manage and receive information about their health.

With a verified MyChart account, you can:

  • Message your healthcare team
  • Request appointments and view upcoming appointments
  • Request prescription renewals
  • View select lab and test results
  • Obtain end-of-visit summaries and letters from your provider’s office
  • Pay bills
  • And more!

Where can I find MyChart?

Desktop: Access UC Irvine Health MyChart online at my.ucirvinehealth.org

Mobile: Access MyChart from your Apple or Android mobile device. Download the MyChart app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Open the MyChart app, and select UC Irvine Health from the list of California providers.

How do I create a MyChart account?

There are several ways to create a MyChart account.

  • At your next patient visit — Ask your care team how to sign up for MyChart (recommended)
  • Online, at my.ucirvinehealth.org — Go to “New Users” and select “Request to Sign Up”
  • Call MyChart customer support — Call 1-833-4MYCHRT (1-833-469-2478), Monday–Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. PST for help signing up for MyChart

Please note: If you create a MyChart account without a visit to your provider’s office, your account won’t be fully activated. This means you’ll have limited functionality in MyChart. Your care team will need to confirm your information at your next patient visit before your MyChart account is verified and fully activated.

I received a MyChart activation code. What next?

Your MyChart activation code lets you create a MyChart account. Visit MyChart online at my.ucirvinehealth.org and select ‘Create Account.’ Follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note: If you create a MyChart account without a visit to your provider’s office, your account won’t be fully activated. This means you’ll have limited functionality in MyChart. Your care team will need to confirm your information at your next patient visit before your MyChart account is verified and fully activated.

Why do I have to visit my provider’s office before I can have a verified MyChart account?

To create a verified MyChart account, you must first visit your provider’s office so they can confirm your health information with you. This will help ensure your information is correct in our health records system so we can provide you with the best, personalized care. Once the verification process is complete, your information will be saved to MyChart, and you will have access to all the functions in MyChart.

Will I be able to set up a MyChart account for a family member?

Yes, where legally permitted and available, you can.

Parents or legal guardians may request proxy access to view their child's record. Once granted access, a child’s guardian can access the child's information by logging in to the guardian’s MyChart account.

If you are the caregiver for an adult patient, you may be granted proxy access pending the completion of a verification and documentation process.

I already have a MyChart account with another organization. Will I have access to all my health records?

Even if you have a MyChart account with another organization, or with UC Irvine Health Medical Group, your health records will not transfer to your UC Irvine Health MyChart account. Separate MyChart accounts are required for each organization.

I have a FollowMyHealth account. Do I need to sign up for MyChart?

Yes. After Nov. 6, new health information is available only in MyChart. You can still access your historical health records on FollowMyHealth, but you will need to create a MyChart account to continue managing your healthcare online.

I previously used the FollowMyHealth patient portal to manage my healthcare. Will I be able to do the same things in MyChart?

A verified MyChart account gives you access to the same functions you had in FollowMyHealth, including the ability to request appointments, message providers and request prescription renewals. Plus, the MyChart patient portal will allow even greater functionality in the future.

My health records are on FollowMyHealth. Can I keep my FollowMyHealth account active?

Yes, you can keep your FollowMyHealth account active. You will still have access to your historical health records on FollowMyHealth. However, after Nov. 6, new health information is added only to MyChart.
