Dislocation After Hip Replacement

A hip dislocation occurs when the ball of your hip implant comes out of the socket.

Although dislocation is rare, the risk is highest in the months after your surgery. This is because your tissues are still healing. To minimize the risk of dislocating your hip, your therapy team with show you ways to move that can prevent dislocation.

If your hip does become dislocated, there are generally two options:

  • Your doctor can perform a closed reduction, a nonsurgical treatment that can place the joint back into place.
  • If your hip continues to dislocate, your doctor may need to perform further surgery so solve the problem.
