Neurosurgery involves the surgical treatment of conditions involving the nervous system — the brain and spinal cord, and their coverings (the scalp, skull and spine), as well as the peripheral nervous system.
Our neurosurgeons work in collaboration with UC Irvine Health neurologists, neuro-oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, head and skull base surgeons, neuro-intensive care specialists and other highly skilled medical professionals. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that our patients receive the most advanced and personalized care.
Our neurosurgery team uses the latest technology to diagnose and treat our patients, including BrainPath®, a game-changing device that enables our neurosurgeons to safely reach and extract tumors and blood clots from the deepest recesses of the brain.
Our modern surgical facilities at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange include state-of-the-art operating suites equipped for intraoperative computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These hybrid operating rooms at UC Irvine Health Douglas Hospital are designed for both open and minimally invasive endovascular surgery.
We also have a full-body portable CT scanner that is able to capture high-resolution, 3D images of the brain and spine in the operating room. Called the BodyTom®, this scanner provides the neurosurgery team with real-time updates, eliminating the need to move patients between the operating room and radiology suite, making surgeries safer.
Our patients also benefit from the research our neurosciences team members are conducting at Orange County's only university medical center. Their work helps pave the way for innovations that extend and improve our patients' quality of life, often giving them access to clinical trials and new therapies long before they are available to the general public.
As faculty members of the UC Irvine Health School of Medicine, our neurosurgeons also are the leaders in their field, responsible for training the neurosurgeons of the future.
We promise to see patients with urgent problems (brain and spinal tumors, as well as cerebrovascular problems) within 24 hours. Please call our neurosurgery team at 714-456-6966 or toll-free at 855-557-1531.
