The Nephrology Services team at UC Irvine Medical Center provides the most advanced care in Orange County and the region for patients in need of dialysis, including:
- Adult and teenage outpatients with end-stage renal disease
- People in need of training and assistance with home peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis
- Hospitalized patients with acute renal disease
Our nephrologists — whose expertise is reflected in the medical center being named one of the nation's best hospitals for kidney disorders by U.S. News & World Report — are leaders in dialysis treatment. They have pioneered incremental hemodialysis, nutritional therapy, pregnancy care during dialysis and other innovative approaches.
Among the most experienced and published experts in their field, our nephrology team works closely with other highly skilled physicians at Orange County's only university medical center to ensure that our patients receive seamless, world-class care.
Unlike many community outpatient dialysis centers, our 20-station UC Irvine Health Dialysis Center is based at the medical center, with expert nephrologists on hand and easy access to other medical specialists as needed. We are a regional referral center for difficult-to-manage cases.
The center provides state-of-the-art maintenance dialysis in seven shifts daily from early morning until evening. Treatments are typically scheduled three times a week, usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
For more information on scheduling dialysis, please call us at 714-456-5555.
The dialysis center also offers:
- Specialty dialysis care for high-risk maternity patients
- Consultations with a licensed clinical social worker
- Consultations with a registered dietician
- Assistance in applying for medical insurance
- One-on-one psychosocial counseling
We also offer our patients peritoneal home dialysis as well as home hemodialysis for adults and children with end-stage renal failure.
This includes complete training and support services for continuous ambulatory or continuous cycling dialysis.
Inpatient (acute) dialysis
At the adjacent state-of-the-art UC Irvine Health Douglas Hospital, our nephrologists also provide adults and teenagers suffering from chronic or acute renal failure with inpatient:
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration (CAVH)
- Continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH)
Our specialists are also skilled in other external therapies for adults and teenagers with acute kidney injury.
