Our neurologists diagnose dementia using neurologic exams, neuropsychological testing and brain imaging—magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans. Each patient receives personalized care.
When appropriate, patients have access to leading-edge techniques to assist with diagnosis, such as a lumbar puncture or a positron emission tomography (PET) scan that is performed in combination with the drug Amyvid to determine whether amyloid plaque is present.
As physician researchers, we also are committed to clinical research on memory disorders and to matching interested patients to research opportunities both at UC Irvine Health and throughout the region.
We also work closely with physicians at the SeniorHealth Center and elsewhere at UC Irvine to ensure that the patient receives individualized care for all their needs.
