Details About Your Visit

Our Executive Physicals and Premier Health Exams offer comprehensive, world-class evaluations of your current health. Here is additional information to help you get the most out of your visit.

Prior to exam day, you will be asked to complete a secure online health risk appraisal. This helps establish your medical history, current risk factors and any potential focus areas for lifestyle modifications.

To get ready for your exam, please follow these instructions:

  • Fast for 12 hours before you blood work is obtained. Although you are fasting, do drink plenty of water during this time to avoid dehydration. Avoid all other liquids, including coffee.
  • Take all of your usual medications with water, with the exception of beta blockers which are used to lower blood pressure and heart rate. Examples of medications to avoid include: atenolol (Tenormin), propanol (Inderal), metoprolol (Lopressor), nadolol (Corgard) and nebivolol (Bystolic).
  • Do not smoke for at least four hours before your exam.
  • If you will be having a treadmill stress test, do not drink any caffeinated beverages.
  • Wear or bring loose-fitting, comfortable clothing such as a T-shirt, shorts or yoga pants, as well as comfortable athletic shoes.

On exam day, your visit will typically proceed as follows:

Welcome and initial lab testing (30 minutes)

After brief introductions and check-in, we do your lab work (blood tests) and check your vital signs. Once this information is taken, you are free to have a light breakfast or snack.

Physician consultation and exam (60-90 minutes)

You meet with your physician one-on-one for a thorough review of your completed health risk appraisal, as well as an in-depth discussion of your current health concerns. A complete physical exam will be performed, too.

This time with the physician is an important component of your visit. Please be ready with any questions you may have so they can be addressed.

Comprehensive health assessment (60-120 minutes)

Specific tests may be recommended and performed based on your age, medical and family history, or as part of your employer’s coverage plan for those receiving a company-provided evaluation.

Tests may include:

  • Laboratory evaluation, including complete blood counts, liver and kidney function, the presence of diabetes or pre-diabetes, electrolytes, thyroid function, expanded lipid (cholesterol) analysis, presence of inflammation, vitamin levels and urinalysis
  • Vision assessment
  • Hearing assessment
  • Pulmonary function testing to assess lung capacity and lung function
  • Physical fitness testing to assess muscular strength, endurance and flexibility
  • Body mass and body fat analysis via Bioelectric Impedance Analysis
  • Colon cancer screening
  • Resting electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Stress electrocardiogram (stress test)

Read more detail about our testing on the "Tests Offered" tab.

Approximately two weeks after your exam, you and your physician will review all of your results. You will be provided an overall assessment of your health at this time. An in-person visit is highly recommended, but we can also discuss your results by phone, or mail you a report, if you prefer.

The assessment includes predictions for your risk of certain diseases, such as:

  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis

The assessment also provides an evaluation of your lifestyle in terms of:

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Stress management
  • Safety
  • Weight management

Lifestyle coaching is part of our prevention philosophy. Your exam physician can partner with you to help you set and achieve your health goals.
