Vestibular Neuronitis

Vestibular neuronitis is characterized by severe spinning dizziness and imbalance that comes on suddenly and lasts two to three weeks and is not associated with hearing loss.

Symptoms and causes

In this condition, any movement or just sitting still can make you feel dizzy.

Often, the dizziness is so severe that nausea and vomiting occur.

The dizziness lasts about two to three weeks, however, it takes time to fully recover and get your balance back.

Vestibular neuronitis is thought to be caused by a virus infection of the balance nerve.

Treatment

Like labyrinthitis, vestibular neuronitis is viral, so there is no treatment. Cortisone medications are often given to help reduce the symptoms.
