Pioneers in endoscopy
During endoscopy, surgeons use thin, flexible tubes equipped with miniature cameras and other devices to diagnose and treat disorders ranging from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) to Barrett's esophagus and certain cancers. The H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center at UC Irvine Medical Center is at the leading edge of interventional endoscopy.
We are home to some of the most respected pioneers in the field who played a leading role in advancing the use of endoscopic systems and applications. One technique called endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration provides a less invasive, more accurate way to visualize and biopsy tumors.
More than 5,000 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed annually at our all-inclusive, integrated gastrointestinal endoscopy suite. The facility offers:
- Video endoscopy
- Capsule endoscopy
- Endoscopic ultrasound
- Esophageal monometry
- 48-hour wireless pH testing
- Laser photodynamic therapy
