Breast Cancer Genetic Testing

At the UCI Health Pacific Breast Care Center, we offer the latest in genetic testing and counseling services for women who are at higher risk of developing breast, ovarian and other cancers.

We know that women who have a family history of cancer may be at elevated risk of developing breast cancer.

Genetic testing can identify some women who have inherited mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 tumor suppressor genes — or less common mutations in other genes. When women learn that they have these mutations, they can take steps to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian or other cancers. They also can carefully monitor changes in their breasts to detect cancer early, when it is more easily treated.

We offer myRisk™, the latest in genetic screening. MyRisk's 25-gene panel screens for a number of hereditary cancer syndromes. It is focused on eight primary cancer sites, including breast, ovarian, endometrial and colon cancer.

MyRisk has shown an estimated 30% to 50% increase in detecting gene mutations for breast cancer, and an estimated 60% increase in identifying mutations for colon cancer.
