Dr. Steven B. Leven is a fellowship-trained specialist in critical care medicine and lung disease at UC Irvine Medical Center, where he serves as medical director of respiratory care services and the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).

Leven is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and palliative care. His clinical interests include asthma, emphysema, COPD (chronic pulmonary obstructive disorder), pulmonary fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases, as well as chronic bronchitis, sleep apnea and shortness of breath.

Leven, who holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from UCLA, earned his medical degree and internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Florida. A practicing pulmonologist and critical care physician in Southern California for more than two decades, he is passionate about teaching UC Irvine School of Medicine students, residents and fellows to provide the best possible care to critically ill patients and those suffering from lung diseases.

Born in Rhode Island and reared in Southern California from the age of 8, Leven enjoys sharing his love of bike riding, photography and reading with his wife and family.
