Dr. Dennis R. Long is a board-certified UC Irvine Health specialist in internal medicine, with expertise in heart and digestive health, diabetes and hepatitis.
Long earned his medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Mich. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
Growing up in a small town in Michigan, Long was impressed with his best friend’s father, the town doctor, and the impact he made on the community.
“He was my role model,” Dr. Long recalled. “Combined with my affection for science, that prompted my career as a physician and it took off.” He enjoys providing personalized medicine and coordinating patient care, particularly for seniors who have chronic illnesses. He compares his role to that of a quarterback, directing his patients’ care as he refers them to specialists and helps them navigate the healthcare system maze.
Dr. Long has been working in Orange since 1982, and is knowledgeable about insurance, managed care, Medicare and specialists.
He is an avid golfer who enjoys reading adventure novels and books about history in his free time.
