Dr. Sumit (Sam) Garg is a board-certified UCI Health ophthalmologist and a nationally recognized expert in the latest techniques for cataract surgery, corneal, conjunctival and refractive surgery, and intraocular lens implants.

He earned his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y., followed by an internal medicine internship at UCLA Olive View Medical Center. He went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery, and external disease at the UCI School of Medicine and Gavin Herbert Eye Institute in Irvine.

His research is focused on cataract surgery, keratoconus, corneal transplantation, corneal infections and dry eye disease. He is the author or co-author of dozens of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has contributed to numerous book chapters. He also is a frequent lecturer at conferences and symposia locally, nationally and internationally.

Garg, who also speaks Spanish, sees patients in Irvine and Orange.
