Dr. Dawn M. Elfenbein is a board-certified general surgeon who is specialty trained in endocrine surgery, treating disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands that require surgery.

Elfenbein earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. She completed both an internship and residency in general surgery at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC. She also completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI.

Elfenbein has a particular interest in medical student and resident education, as well as surgical decision-making and outcomes. She has presented multiple times at national meetings for the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Association for Surgical Education, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Association for Academic Surgery.

Elfenbein sees patients at the UC Irvine Health — Tustin multispecialty clinic and at the UC Irvine Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her goal is to expand the care we provide to patients with endocrine diseases requiring surgery, and to help patients make informed, personalized treatment decisions.
