Dr. Bryan S. Benn is a board-certified UC Irvine Health pulmonologist and critical care physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the lungs and chest.
As an interventional pulmonologist, Benn's clinical interests include endobronchial ultrasound, diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, endobronchial cryosurgery and medical thoracoscopy. Benn earned his medical degree as well as a PhD at New Jersey Medical School in Newark, where his work on the role of vitamin D in regulating intestinal calcium absorption and renal calcium reabsorption was supported by a pre-doctoral National Institutes of Health (NIH) fellowship. The research led to multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Benn completed a residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia followed by a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at UC San Francisco, where his NIH-supported research focused on the clinical characterization of sarcoidosis and the development of prognostic markers of disease progression. He also completed a fellowship at UC San Francisco in interventional pulmonology focusing on minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for thoracic diseases.
Benn sees patients at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange at Pavilion 1 and at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
