The role of dopamine metabolism in the antidepressant effects of sleep deprivation and sertraline in depressed patients

We are testing a potentially new method of accelerating the response to antidepressants using manipulations of the sleep schedule and light therapy
Subjects are eligible to participate if they are depressed, between 18-75 years of age and are English-speaking
The subjects will be rated for 15 minutes twice daily for six days and then weekly for seven weeks. The subjects will complete 15 minutes of surveys twice daily for seven weeks. One-half of the patients undergo four nights of sleep deprivation procedure with sleep deprivation over one night and sleep phase advance for three nights.
Benefits to society are to develop a better understanding and treatment of depressive diseases.
Subjects will be compensated for their time and inconvenience.
