Purine therapy for newly-diagnosed type-1 diabetes mellitus

To investigate the ability of a naturally occurring food substance in retarding or preventing the progression of Type-1 diabetes.
Males and females, age 6 years of age or older with Type-1 diabetes mellitus, diagnosed within the past 6 months.
The study will be conducted over a one to two year period. Participants will receive monthly medical evaluations. Blood sampling related to the study will be performed four times over a two year period.
There is no guarantee of any benefit from participating in this study, but the information obtained may aid in the development of better treatments in retarding or preventing the progression of Type-1 diabetes.
Study drug, office visits, research blood tests, exams, training or any procedure required by this study will be provided at no cost.
